Introduction
Written by one of the world renowned social theorists and philosopher, Hannah Arendt, The Human Condition was first published in the year 1958 with the second edition coming much later in the year 1998. She also has some two other pieces that are regarded highly in the literary world namely The Origin of Totalitarianism, which delves into the aspects of the terrors of the Nazis and Stalinism. The other piece is called On Revolution, which deliberates on political science and history with an isocratic viewpoint. The Human Condition is a book that has some very striking and insightful views, some of which are at home now than it were when the book was published in the 50s. Drawing on the knowledge of the political systems and critical reading of the works that relate to Marxism and Kant, she published on of the most authentic works, revealing the human conditions in their social settings. The book brings out the human condition related to the quest for humans to seek immortality through their actions (The-philosophy.com, 2012). Ideally the intrinsic human behavior forces humans to try and take actions that will ensure they are remembered even after they are dead (d'Entreves, 2006). As such the book gives the full meaning of the political systems ad their actions based on the human nature.
Hannah Arendt
Born in the year 1906, Hannah Arendt, was one of the most influential social theorists and political philosophers who lived in her time. As an American born of a German-British family had lived in Germany and Paris before she later on moved to the USA. Here she became part of a lively and intellectual circle, where she held several academic positions at a number of universities, during which time she wrote some of her most acclaimed (Iep.utm.edu, 2015). She later died in 1975, living behind a legacy of literary material for her readers and researchers following in her footsteps (d'Entreves, 2006).
The Human Condition
Arendt organized the book into two main sections which makes for an orderly flow of ideas for the readers. In the first section there are the elements of work, labor and action as well as how they tie in to the aspect of human seeking mortality. The second section then brings to the readers’ attention the influence of these elements in the modern world which is both dependent on science and secularism. As such the human condition can be discussed with reference to the three activities namely; labor, work and actions (Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities, 2012). In her conviction, the political actions are a symbol of the highest manifestation of the human condition as it riddled with the three activities. Looking at the organization of the book and the content flow and context, one would think that the writer lived in the current times. The life systems in the current society are all lined up on the basis of science and secular beliefs and lifestyles. So much relies on technology today that it would be hard to point one single thing that is not (Iep.utm.edu, 2015). Secularism is also the new democracy, as people seek to explore their boundaries without a worry, as they set records to be remembered for years to come.
