Berger & Dorothy Berger is tailored to guide managers and human resource personnel on how to use talent management programs successfully in their organizations.
Chapter 1 explains how to use talent management in building a high-performance workforce. Although there are various approaches to talent management, this chapter focuses on the integrated and codified approach commonly used by high-performing organizations. The chapter describes how these organizations implement programs that build and sustain a high-performance workforce. Programs that focus on acquiring, cultivating, positioning and rewarding employees who remain true to stated values in achieving their goals (Berger & Berger, 2017). The chapter goes further to explain three components that constitute these programs: a blueprint, a set of building blocks, and a system that implements these said human resource programs. Talent strategy is the main idea presented in this chapter and connects all the three components that the chapter describes in details. Talent strategy refers to the type of investments an organization makes to build a high-performance workforce. The blueprint defines the talent strategy; the building blocks turn the strategy into assessment tools used to classify the workforce, and the system integrates talent strategy into human resource programs (Berger & Berger, 2017).
