8 Guiding Principles
Each of the 8 guiding principles of the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF) is crucial. However, the Individual and Family Empowerment and Leadership and Local Primacy principles appear to be more crucial.
According to the NDRF principles (2016), for there to be successful recovery, there is a need for individuals and families to have “an equal opportunity to participate in community recovery efforts in a meaningful way” (Homeland Security). Successful recovery simply means reaching a point where everyone is physically and emotionally forging ahead in spite of the disaster. It means that people have come to terms with what has happened, and are looking towards the future. Attaining success with this principle makes it easier for principles like engaged partnerships and inclusiveness, unity of effort, resilience and sustainability, and gifts people a chance for psychological and emotional recovery.
