Cyber Bullying
Name:
Institution:
Ideally, cyber bullying is a form of hounding where the victims are attacked using the electronic technology platforms. Most of the platforms that are used in terms of hardware include computers, phones and tablets. This type of bullying takes the form of texts, pictures that are incriminating, videos and emails. These avenues are used in spreading rumors on the social media and other websites and are meant to cause embarrassment to the victims (Patchin & Hinduja, 2011). The effects of the bullying can be very severe given the fact that there is a wide audience to the content posted and there is sometimes no way of identifying the origin of the material. Furthermore, most of the time, it is very hard to delete the content from the sites in question.
Justin W. Patchin and Sameer Hinduja are the authors of the book Prevention and Response that was published in the year 2011. The two authors are also directors at the Cyberbullying Research Center. The material in the book is informed by research that has been conducted by the team at the center and supported by previous research material from other quarters. The material from the research is then written in a manner that will help the audience to understand and relate with the content regardless of their expertise in the area. This brings out the book as of the most practical in the field, given that they have taken research results and turned them into informative material for everyday use. The authors have brought out the various issues that exist in the area of cyber bullying. The material is ideally directed to the teachers, counselors, school administrators, parents and the social workers. This is meant to be a guide into the elusive behaviors of the victims and the perpetrators and how best to bring the issues to a lasting solution. Researcher seeking guidance on the topic can also read the book in relation to their research at the college level as part of their course work. The book also comes out as very comprehensive given that, there is informative material for all the parties that are involved in the growth and development of the children. It does not just give the burden of raising and protecting the children to one party such as the parents. Rather it brings out a comprehensive approach for all the parties in the society and how best they can help prevent the vice collectively.
Other than the fact that the authors are reputable in the field, their expertise is illustrated throughout the book. For the audience, they are provided with a chance to understand the basics behind cyber bullying. In the same, light they are educated on the various ways of identifying the acts of cyber bullying and the responses that they can take in a proactive manner to curb the vice that is fast growing. The authors have not just explained the fact that cyber bullying takes place, but have gone ahead and brought out the strategies of tackling the vice;...
