The main themes of the book are interconnection and divergence. Even if the book talks about movements that make global connectedness move, the book also discusses how each region had their own way of dealing with connections. From chapters 1 to 7, there are events written that support the chosen themes of the book.
After analyzing 2 events from chapters 1 to 7, there are 2 main ideas that connects all of them. The 1st one is the presence of human activity because this is where the 1st civilization began. The 2nd idea is the spread of human life in the entire planet because this is a time when domestication and evolution of their knowledge on how to live occurred. These ideas are both connected to the theme because all of the events that happened after the existence of early humans, a lot of structures were built. In addition, the interconnectedness of the human evolution led to some conflicts that inspired improvement among nations. It can be said that, though they were interconnected, they also challenged each other. They also did not agree with everything and this led to more curiosity and resourcefulness for their survival.
For instance, chapter 4 is about the first empires and cultures that united Afro-Eurasia wherein societies got bigger and gained harmony. The political power of the Persians and neo-Assyrian was the main element that brought them together and they both established models that were followed by others. Despite their influence, the Assyrians brutally intimidated groups from other states and societies. This is an example of divergence because they contradicted each other, but remained interconnected. It is the Asians that showed the most divergence because they recognized culture and religion to be their unifying power. This was a time when teachers and thinkers did not exist yet because chapters 1 to 4 is about how the first humans began their journey ...
