Understanding the thematic relationships between literature and the societal context it is based on is essential for any reader. It allows him to appreciate the meaning of the text and apply the same to any period. In this article, I would like to focus on the Sophocles' play entitled Antigone. The play revolves around the post-war era after the battle between Eteocles and Polyneices, more particularly on the life of Creon and Antigone. All in all, I believe that the primary moral conflict in the essay was Creon's dilemma as to whether to kill Antigone or not.
The Moral Conflict
The story's primary conflict was Antigone's dilemma about Creon's decision to whether to kill Antigone or not for disobeying his orders. This decision was difficult for him since both of them carry a heavy burden on his heart. On the one hand, Creon knew that if she were to kill Antigone, she would be killing his niece and his son's future spouse.
