My last assignment was on hate speech order # 00014802 Annotated Bibliography Assignment 1. Locate and record the full bibliographic data for five books on the semester report topic. 2. Identify the major periodical index on your topic. Locate a recent article on a specific topic (e. g., use of artificial intelligence in medical diagnosis). 3. Ask your librarian for help in preparing an electronic search of database networks for your semester report. 4. Using your library consortium of electronically networked libraries, search the holdings of other libraries on the network for topic resources not available in your library. Prepare a list of promising possibilities for interlibrary loan. 5. Prepare an Annotated Bibliography of the material you find in your search that you will be using in your research paper. Style for Annotated Bibliographies When you write an annotated bibliography for a course or in preparation for a thesis advisor, consider that the professionalism of the product is a direct reflection of the quality of the paper that will result. Therefore, be stylistically conscientious, following these tips: - Begin by listing complete bibliographic information (author, year, source name, publisher, etc.) just as you would on the Works Cited page at the end of a paper. (In alphabetical order) - Provide a sentence or two describing the contents of the source. - Summarize the various relevant topic areas that the source discusses. - Avoid vague phrasing and empty sentences. Weed out any generic sentences such as "This source is very useful because it has tons of really good information." - Use present tense and future tense verbs to facilitate the immediacy of the information and the actual future use of sources. - Discuss the exact way that you will use the source (e.g., for background information, data, graphics, as a bibliographic tool). - Carefully judge the value of the source, considering, for example, its level of detail, bias, of the timeliness of its data. - Note if the source's text or bibliography will lead you to other sources. - Comment on anything that you find especially noteworthy about a source--is it controversial? Definitive? Political? New? - Format the annotated bibliography so that each description is clearly associated with the proper source. SUGGESTIONS FOR WRITING ANNOTATIONS Content – What is the resource about? Is it relevant to your research? Purpose – What is it for? Why was the book or article written? Usefulness – What does it do for your research? Reliability – Is the information accurate? Do other sources support the conclusions? Authority – Is it written by someone who has the expertise to author the information? What are the author's credentials? Currency – Is it new? Is it up-to-date for the topic? Ease of use – Can a “real person” use this resource? What is the reading level of the resource? How to Prepare an Annotated Bibliography WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY? An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. ANNOTATION VS. ABSTRACTS Abstracts are the purely descriptive summaries often found at the beginning of scholarly journal articles or in periodical indexes. Annotations are descriptive and critical; they expose the author's point of view, clarity and appropriateness of expression, and authority. THE PROCESS Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills: concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research. First locate and record citations to books, periodicals and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic. Briefly examine and review the actual items. Then choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic. Cite the book, article or document using the appropriate style. Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or article. Include one or more sentences that (a) evaluate the authority or background of the author, (b) comment on the intended audience, (c) compare or contrast this work with another you have cited, or (d) explain how this work illuminates your research topic. CRITCALLY APPRAISING THE BOOK, ARTICLE, OR DOCUMENT For information on the author's background and views, ask at the reference desk for suggestions of appropriate bibliographical reference materials. Print The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles. They find their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males. Increasing the time away from parents before marrying increased individualism, self-sufficiency, and changes in attitudes about families. In contrast, an earlier study by Williams cited below shows no significant gender differences in sex role attitudes as a result of nonfamily living. Werlin, Herbert H. “Poor Nations, Rich Nations: A Theory of Governance.” Public Administration Review 63.3 (2003) : 329-342. Print.
The main argument in this article is that “the difference between poor countries and rich countries has to do with governance rather than resources”. Over the years, meetings on development have centered on the need to reallocate resources through increased globalization, foreign aid and prioritization of economic growth. Yet, decades have passed since the IMF/World Bank structural reforms (which were designed to propagate globalization and trade liberalization), but poverty is still at record high levels. The Brazilian Debt Crisis and the Asian Financial Crisis served to prove the globalization is ineffective, and that there needs to be a change on the policies imposed by the IMF/WB.
Yet for Werlin, it is weak public administration hindering the success of globalization. In this article, the author talks about governance and the various theories, and how each theory can help manage the country’s economy. Through this work, we can see that though globalization has its pitfalls, there are structural issues in countries which has to be addressed first in order for globalization to show its benefits.

This article focuses on the events before, during and after the 1997 Financial Crisis in Asia in order to describe how globalization has been implemented in developing countries. At the beginning of the article, Coclanis and Doshi defines what globalization means using quotes from different sources such as Fredric Jameson, the Communist Manifesto, OECD, Thomas Friedman and many others. The authors then defined what Southeast Asia is and then proceeded to explain what it means or the region to enter the global market.
Coclanis and Doshi effectively shows the unique process of globalization and the difference it had to international trade practiced by Asians in the early part of history. By doing this, globalization in the region was delimited so that it becomes easier for the authors to gauge economic performance of Southeast Asia over the past 30 years. Aside from providing a history of globalization in the developing countries, those known as “poor” nations, this work also provides readers an insight to the effects it had, as well as the changes these nations had to undergo in order to meet the global demand.
