Heaven is For Real
Heaven Is for Real is an authentic narrative about a 4-year old boy in Nebraska who slipped from consciousness through surgery and went to heaven. When he survived from the operation, he woke up and begun narrating on how he looked down and saw his father praying for him in the waiting room while the doctor was carrying out the surgery (Burpo, T. & Vincent, 2010, 70). His family barely believed what they were hearing from their son but later the whole truth revealed itself. He even said he met his sister who had been miscarried yet nobody had told him about such a story. His great grandfather who had died thirty years before his own birth was no exception and to add on their meeting, they shared a lot about each other.
The book has twenty seven chapters which describe the reasons why people should believe in heaven. In chapter one "The Crawl-A-See-Um" is the story of the family trip that turned sour. The family was to travel to Greely, Colorado where an accident happened leaving the member with terrible injuries that lasted for seven months; this made them use a lot of finances. However, they got through this and decided to have fun in the butterfly pavilion. They first stopped at the Crawl-A-See-Un, which was a room with terrariums housing creepy-crawly insects (Burpo, & Vincent, 2010, p.2). Here they have fun as they watch the different creatures and hear their stories. They even play games like Zorro and Spiderman and they learn a lot from the place. This is compared to the numerous creatures that were created by God.
Chapter two is "Pastor Job" which starts with the characters in the next room that has rows of aquariums and indoor pools. Cassie and Colton were amazed to see the creatures and fish in the aquariums; they are also amazed by the beautiful butterflies, palm trees and flowers. The author drifts back to many years in his life where she recalls a certain incident that had happened to her in the past, when she had undergone trying moments (Burpo, & Vincent, 2010, p.9). These were of the last game of the tournament in the 2002 when he got an injury. As she drifts back she finds the kids playing and enjoying themselves. He got through it all including healing from cancer and kidney stones and earned the nickname Pastor Job who is a character in the bible who lost everything but still believed in God.
Chapter three "Colton Tough It Out"; the chapter opens with him recalling of the tribulations that had engulfed him. And this moment she was having fun to forget them. He recalled that Colton had complained of a stomach upset to Sonja who asked Norma to watch over Colton. This condition become worse and the narrator cancelled his trip. The family is enjoying their moments together and Colton agrees to hold the creatures which she had refused to catch before (Burpo, & Vincent, 2010, p.16). The author compares this to the cour...
