In the book ‘Together is better,’ Simon Sinek says, “Most of us live our lives by accident—we live as it happens. Fulfillment comes when we live our lives on purpose” (Sinek, 2016). Simon Sinek uses this quote to explain the importance of having a vision and a goal at work. Furthermore, the author establishes a connection between organizational success and individual ambitions. The more employees are geared towards accomplishing a common goal, the better the performance of an organization.
Moreover, it is essential to have a purpose in life since lack of ambition means a lack of direction. Desires are only met if we plan to achieve them, and this is evident in our actions. Simon, on the other hand, also emphasizes this quote amidst tales of a good leader. The author explains that leadership is not a position but a service to the people.
Besides, from the three boys' stories in the playground, our principles also guide our success. With a well laid out plan, one determines their principles and purpose when performing a specific task. Therefore, it is likely that people who have a plan also exhibit a high degree of integrity. These values learned from the story might be carried forward to workplaces. Simon displays strong values that could help guide employee behavior and attitude at work. Furthermore, these values could also help leaders to relate effectively with employees at work. The author explains that if we connect well with each other at work and set our goals, we will enjoy our work.
“We would achieve more if we chased the dream instead of the competition” (Sinek, 2016). Politically driven companies tend to fight against themselves while companies caused by vision fight together. Companies operated with vision are more focused on finding solutions to problems affecting the organization than the inside wrangles. Just like companies that are obsessed with competition against their competitors, politically driven companies face several destructions. These companies focus more on short term goals, and their ambitions are limited to the present. On the other hand, organizations that are driven by vision focus on long term goals.
