Introduction
The 15th Amendment that was ratified or adopted on March 30, 1870 gave African-American men an opportunity to vote in a general election. The amendment that was passed by the Congress the year before 1870 sparked a huge debate in the United States. The amendment stated that, every citizen in the United States had absolute right to vote in any election, and no one was to be denied or abridged by the United States or any other state because of race, past servitude condition, and / or color (Nee, ). However, even though the amendment was passed, in the late 1870s, various efforts were made to ensure that the gains that were achieved by this amendment were curtailed. However, the 15th amendment was opposed by the Democrats on the basis that it left out the people of Asian American decent. Senator John S. Hager was surprised why the Republicans only limited the voting right to only African Americans men and leaving out other races like the Chinese and Indians. Racism in the United States was escalated when Senator Hager declared that U.S was destined to be a white man’s country. The Democrats further escalated the argument by saying that there was a scientific theory that supported the superiority of the white men over other races in the world. However, this argument was refuted as not true because there is no scientific proof to confirm that whites are more superior to other races living in the world. Each and every race has got their own and weaknesses and strengths and therefore it is fallacious to argue that white are more superior to the rest (Paddison, 201).
