The articles ‘Africa: Myth and Reality’ by CITATION Bro16 \l 1033 (Brown, 2016)and ‘Changing Perceptions And Realities For NGOs in Africa’ by CITATION Lau14 \l 1033 (Woodman, 2014) show the misrepresentation of Africa in the media today often for financial gain. Their views are shared by CITATION Kar11 \l 1033 (Rothmeyer, 2011) in her article ‘Hiding the Real Africa’ where she details how depicting Africa in a negative light is largely the work of many NGOs in the continent who profit from it. It is a practice that has been ongoing for decades has now formed a permanent and dominant picture in the west. The media has to concur with the conceptions of the West to create content that sells. The underlying reason held by all the articles is that the content has been subjectively framed for financial gain. The media works with the NGOs to report on the negative side of Africa and the NGOs use the media to solicit more funds from donors.
