The Kingdom of Warasia
I was born in a small town called Warasia. My father, Zech was a charming man although many considered him to be lazy: he would work, get money and then drink it all before he went out looking for another job. It was a life that saw him lose job after job until he could finally get no job placement anywhere. He came back home and started drinking with his buddies and the burden of taking care of the family fell on my mum. It was hard enough for a small-time business woman to take care of a family of two kids and a husband. Her business were not so successful and rumors had it that he used to solicit for extra sources of finance in the only ways she knew best.
The tipping point in the relationship between my mum and dad came in 2002 when he went for a funeral of one of my uncles in a distant land. Usually, it would take two to three days for someone to go for a funeral and back. That was not the case for my dad. He stayed behind and weeks turned into months and as it approached one year, my mum realized that our father had abandoned the family. She decided to go back to her dad's home taking us along. Life was not easy there either. It was a large family and we hardly had enough to eat. Before long, my mum started falling sick. I was young but I remember the adults saying that whatever she was suffering from had no cure. We stayed at my granny's place while mum went back home. Dad was finally back and was ready to take care and tender for his sick wife.
Long, we reserved world that mum had passed on. I was young naïve and I never really understood what death meant but I was old enough to know it meant I would never be with her any more. On our way home, I kept wishing that somehow I would arrive
