This is an Australian study that addresses the experiences of nurses in dealing with postpartum depression (PPD) by analysing the results of eight in-depth interviews with cases of PPD on new mothers. The study looks at the challenges that maternal and child health nurses (MCH nurses) encounters in terms of recognizing symptoms of PPD and their response to existing and new cases of PPD (Rush, 2012).
The research identified five themes that emerged from the participants’ interviews. These themes are namely; (i) Recognition of symptoms by MCH Nurses, (ii) Treatment options importance (iii) The rapport’s role, (iv) Limits of MCH Nurses in their response to PPD and (v) MCH Nurses response upon recognition of new cases of PPD.
