Communication is the fundamental aspect towards the achievement of healthy nurse-patient relationships. Sheldon, Barrett and Ellington (2006) underscore that daily nursing practice is dependent on effective communication without which nurse-patient interactions would be unfruitful. Moreover, the fact that nurses occupy central position in health care implies that most of their time is spent listening and responding to patients concerns (Sheldon, Barrett & 2006). More often that not, most of nurse-patient interactions are filled with all types of emotions as patients try to come to term with life threatening illnesses plus other family problems. Against this background, Sheldon, Barrett and Ellington (2006) conducted an empirical research among 230 nurses in order to establish their point of view about constrained communication in nurse-patient relationships. Their findings exposed several themes that participant nurses felt heightened the communication difficulties during nurse-patient interactions. The identified themes include; patient and family emotions, triangle of nurse-physician-patient communication, coping behavior among nurses, situational and diagnosis contrasts.
