“Mariposa Botnet Author, Darkode Crime Forum Admin Arrested in Germany” portrays an information security concern in the technology sector. The rapid advancement of technology has provided relevant resources to numerous people who have bad motives. For this reason, cybercriminals are not sleeping, trying to search for loopholes to penetrate various network systems. Matjaz Skorjanc is one of the Slovenian hackers who operated and updated the Mariposa botnet. The individual was also the administrator of a darkode cybercrime forum known as “Iserdo.” In the digital world, many people have realized that information is power. That is the reason why hackers are always in the search for computer systems and websites to breach. For instance, Mariposa was first identified in 2008, when it had already infected over one million computers. Before Skorjanc engaged in cybercrime, he was the senior technology officer of a Slovenian company called NiceHash. He quitted his work after about $52 million went missing in a single bitcoin transaction (Krebsonsecurity.com, 2019). However, Skorjanc was working in close collaboration with other hackers located in different parts of the world. On that note, it is clear that many organizations do not have the appropriate security infrastructure, and that is the reason why they are suffering from cyber breaches. Hackers are not afraid of spending money to get the information they need since they sell it on the black market. For instance, Skorjanc’s colleague, Thomas McCormick, was found with thousands of credit cards stolen from different companies. However, police officers said that they did not know the intention of the hacker since he claimed to have reformed.
