Pregnancies are associated with changes in psychology, physiology and biomechanical which put the victims at high risks of falling. The risks can be categorized as extrinsic or intrinsic. Here I will discuss one example of the two. An intrinsic factor is gait and balance difficulties while an extrinsic factor is epidural.
Gait and balance difficulties put an obstetric patient at a higher risk of falling. Balance is what controls the walking, leaning, arising from a chair or such like stuff. If the patient has difficulties in these, they can easily fall thus causing physical injury of which, to a greater extent, leading to premature births or babies being born underweight (Charles, 2013). The control of labor pain by administering epidural to patients put them at a high risk of falling.
