1 After reading the article, the pathway of the dopaminergic neurotransmitter should be tackled. Dopamine is the major transmitter that is involved in cases of schizophrenia. This includes the nigrostriatal, mesocortical, mesolimbic, and tuberoinfundibular pathways. The knowledge of these pathways is crucial since this can serve as a guide when choosing an antipsychotic drug to address schizophrenia. The nigrostriatal pathway is responsible for tardive dyskinesia and extrapyramidal symptoms. Both the mesolimbic and mesocortical pathways deal with the positive and negative symptoms, respectively. Moreover, the tuberoinfundibular pathway is concerned with hyperprolactinemia (Brisch et al., 2014).
2 The participants were asked to abstain from consuming alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco since these three substances have been found out to be commonly abused, and people suffering from mental disorders have a higher risk of using or abusing it. These three substances were also found to induce dependence. In patients with schizophrenia, these three substances are often used to relieve the symptoms of dysphoria.
