The Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorder talks about the different methods that are used to test and help someone who has autism. Tests are administered to a number of participants that fall under a certain category. One important assessment done is about helping the intellectual function of someone where KBIT-2 was used. It is a quick screening tool that is given in order to gauge cognitive functioning in verbal and non-verbal domains. This only required 25 minutes to complete and it is for adolescent participants. If a person got a high score, it means that he or she has good intellectual functioning and getting a low score proves otherwise. This type of method is a good way to help improve the social skills of adolescents who are going through the stage where they tend to surround themselves with peers. During this stage, they explore themselves in terms of social groups, their sexuality, and other factors that will matter when they reach adulthood.
The tests could open more opportunities to those who need help in what they need to accomplish despite of them having difficulties because each method enhances a certain function of their well-being.
Another assessment that needs to be highlighted is the UCLA Peers Program where parents and their teens become part of separate concurrent sessions.
