BMP4 AND BEAK MORPHOLOGY 2
Abstract
Bone morphogenic protein 4 (Bmp4) is a chemical protein which is involved in the formation and development of bones and cartilage in living things. Mbp4 is a critical deterministic molecule responsible for the initial differentiation of the early stages of a living being and also for the initialization of a dorsal-vertical axis. Its level variations are believed to cause some transformational effects on beings.
BMP4 AND BEAK MORPHOLOGY 3
The paper Bmp4 and Morphological Variation of beaks in Darwin’s Finches by Arhat Abzhannov and other scholars has been written as a report on a study that was done with the aim of establishing two concerns with regard to Bmp4 influences and the morphological effects of its variations. The study was to establish the biological aspects behind the development and morphology of the Darwin’s finches species beak. One, the study was done to establish or find and explain the relationship between Bmp4 and the beak morphology of Geospiza species. Two, the study had been conducted in order to establish the effects of varying the levels of Bmp4 on the craniofacial development of Darwin’s finches. This was aimed at establishing whether variations in Bmp4 expressions resulted into differences in beak morphology in the ground finches species. The study also looked at the effects of misexpressing genes.
The study was conducted by comparing the development of beaks in the embryonic stages of six different species of Darwin’s finches species and the avian fowl. The study analyzed the expression modes of several growth factors. The study also evaluated factors whose magnification in the mesenchyme tissue of the beak prominence correlated with the increasing visible beak width and depth in different sets of species. The study as well reviewed the research on the effects of varying the levels of Bmp4 expressions and the misexpressions of genes during chicken development.
The research findings were that there exist a clear link between Bmp4 expression and the species beak morphology right from the early embryo stages. With regard to gene misexpression the study found out that Bmp4 expression has critical roles in the development of the epithelium and mesenchyme tissues. The research findings points at the importance of the Bmp4 in the
