Legal and Ethical Responsibility of Facebook in Crime
People have argued about whether Facebook has an ethical or legal responsibility in rescuing crime victims. Facebook is a social media space where individuals of various backgrounds, whether criminal or not, share different types of information. Response to crime victims is a mandate of authorized agencies such as emergency response services, the police, and private security organizations. Facebook is a global platform and is used in all parts of the world. The individual who choose to work with utilize the platform are independent to share whatever they deem fit for their intended audience. Facebook is not a police force in any part of the world (Isaac & Mele, 2017).
While it does not have the primary responsibility of arresting crime perpetrators, Facebook should be able to offer any information that can assist police and other emergency rescue agencies to rescue crime victims. There is a legal and ethical responsibility to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that victims are rescued from dangerous circumstances. Facebook live is a tool that criminals have been using to manipulate and swindle people. Other have used it to confess or broadcast crimes such as murder, gang rape, and torture. The platform should offer incentives to prevent crimes and assist in building a social infrastructure that offer people the autonomy to express themselves and enhance security.

The filtering system can be age-based and filters content that is not appropriate for a particular age. Another effective system to filter content is using pre-moderated where information shared is added to the queue for review and subsequent release for public consumption. If information does not fit the selected criteria, the system rejects the content and never reaches the users (Ullrich, 2014).
Another strategy to review content is pairing an integrated content-review system with human moderators (Ullrich, 2014). For example, Facebook algorithm is designed to identify posts with negative, criminal, or suicidal information and flags them for review. After the system flags certain information, a member of the Facebook team reviews the content and reaches out to the person when necessary (Newcomb, 2017). Finally, there is need to formulate community standards and ensure that they are enforced.
