Research Problem
The purpose of this study conducted by Theresa Lynch Morrison and Laura Brennaman (2016) was to determine factors that cause dissatisfaction and satisfaction of registered nurses (RNs) participating in nurse student preceptorship and clinical rotation role-model. The research was significant since it reveals how nursing students impact the perceptions of experienced caregivers. The study hypothesis is clear and shows the interactions between nurse students and RNs. Concepts used in the research, such as phenomenology, are well-defined. For example, phenomenology refers to the understanding of the RNs’ lived experiences obtained by working with nurse students.  
Review of the Literature
The primary and secondary types of the literature review were used by the researchers. RNs from 6 acute care nonprofit community hospitals were invited from 5 counties in the southeastern part of the United States of America (USA). Researchers used questionnaires to gather data and supported their study with materials from different authors. Studies used were not conducted within the last five years. The oldest one was published in 2001, and the latest in 2015 (Morrison & Brennaman, 2016). Studies in the literature review are related to the topic of study. For instance, Matsumura et al.’s (2004) research was about the RNs’ perceptions of the contributions made by students’ clinical agencies. The review offers support to the need for the current study that depicts how the interactions of RNs with nurse students help the latter to obtain relevant nursing skills. Grindel et al. (2001) showed that a few years of RN experience facilitated a significant appreciation of nurse students’ contributions. On the other hand, Matsumura et al. (2004) found out that RNs demonstrated ambivalent and positive perceptions toward nurse students (Morrison & Brennaman, 2016).
Research Design
Morrison and Brennaman (2016) conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study. In particular, cross-sectional descriptive studies are crucial in investigating a specific phenomenon (Houser, 2016). Researchers used this design since it enabled them to collect data from surveys and use appropriate secondary sources. By doing so, they were in a good position to understand how the interaction of student nurses and RNs impacted the provision of healthcare services.
Sampling
Researchers used convenience sampling to get student preceptors who participated in the study. In particular, convenience sampling involves selecting samples from a pool of those who have met the set requirements. Subjects were selected if they were involved in a clinical rotation role-model or preceptorship. After the invitation using a survey from SurveyMonkey, 391 individuals responded. Ninety-two participants were student preceptors (Morrison & Brennaman, 2016). Overall, the exclusion and inclusion criteria were not clearly stated.
