Evaluation of Research Methods and Their Appropriateness
Most of the studies in the review are based on quantitative methods using surveys to gather the information (Berdahl et al., 2018; Kornbluth et al., 2022; Avalos et al., 2013; Michalec et al., 2015). The researchers easy access to the patients enables them to record their views over a long time to notice changes in their satisfaction and other language barriers associated with provider-patient communication. Hence, the quantitative technique fits the context (Gelo et al., 2009). However, using mixed methods, such as those used by Kornbluth et al. (2022), gives a more comprehensive view since it enables the researchers to explore opportunities using a critical problem-solving approach. This approach is appropriate since several innovation options may emerge to address the communication barriers using an open-ended approach.
Data Collection Methods
Most of the studies are based on surveys. The sample population comprises either patients or service providers, but none of the studies included in the review combines both perspectives (Berdahl et al., 2018; Kornbluth et al., 2022; Avalos et al., 2013; Michalec et al., 2015; Ng et al., 2023). While the data collection methods are appropriate, considering the adequate size of the population and appropriate measures used to assess patient satisfaction, an integrative view could offer deeper insights (Creswell & Clark, 2011). The interviews are used scarcely, which is a potential source of gaining insights and evaluating the viability of different options through the managerial lens in solution-seeking scenarios like the one in question (Creswell & Clark, 2011). Therefore, the insights suggest that combining the interviews with surveys could address the following areas:
* Providing a multi-perspective view of the situation
* Allowing the participants to touch on otherwise hidden aspects of the problem
* Allowing the participants to lay out innovative strategic options
* Improved assessment of the viability of different options
Appropriateness of Statistical Analysis
The statistical analysis used in the research is mostly based on patient satisfaction measures or patient characteristics. The descriptive analysis analyses the extent to which the patient feels comfortable about different options (such as an interpreter, telephonic interpretation service, etc.) (Ng et al., 2023; Michalec et al., 2015). These statistical techniques served the purpose since they helped the researcher articulate the problem realistically. The key to understanding the factors affecting the quality of care was to evaluate patient satisfaction. Therefore, the measures chosen to get an informed idea of patient satisfaction over the longitudinal scale is an appropriate statistical approach. The systematic literature revi...
