The article Savant Syndrome: Realities, Myths, and Misconceptions written by Darold Treffert discusses the various misconstructions that are related with savant syndrome and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) among many. The first misconception that Treffert clears up is that not all individuals with savant syndrome are autistic and so not all autistic people have savant syndrome. In reality, only one out of ten autistic individuals have savant syndrome and so other savants have other developmental disabilities or mental retardation other than autism (Treffert, 2013).
