Article Critique Instructions:

Chanel's is good, the other is bad.
One of the benefits you can write about is that chanel can make you smell

Select two magazine ads*.
*magazine ads selected must be from actual US published magazines from the last 6 months, no international ads are to be used, include in the submission a copy of the ads, large enough so they can be read.

The ads you select must be from the same specific category of product:
meaning two watch ads, two jeans ads, or two shoe ads etc. However, choose one advertisement that you think shows good advertising and one that you think demonstrates poor advertising.

Submit a 1-2 page (up to 500 words) critique for each ad addressing:

1-List each brand name of the product or service, the company that owns the brand name and briefly identify and describe the specific category of product you chose. Example: Nike shoes, “athletic footwear category”

2-Identify a price range for the product and which distribution channels (where the brand is commonly distributed and sold).

3-Describe as specifically as possible, who you think the branded
product or service is directing their advertising message towards, in other words, the target market. Also state at least two major competitors.

4-Evaluation: State your opinion and specifically explain what makes the ads’ either good or poor. (It is okay to be critical).
Your comments should be based on elements from the advertisements.

5-For the poor ad, explain what you would change in the ad to improve it.

Copies of the ads must be included in the critique, and remember the title/cover page information.

Special note on format:
The preferred format is to use a bullet style, with selected paragraphs of writing, addressing each topical point as asked.

LancГґme made a very cluttered hard to read ad for their perfume. First, objects, except for the typography, were all bigger than the product itself. The mode, the fountains and the Eifel tower casts some overshadowing effect to the product making it less visible in a glance. Second, the only readable text was the company name situated against a white background. The branded product name and head line were situated against a complicated background where it need some amount of concentration to reorder the thoughts that the advertisement is saying. Lastly, the bottle was placed at the lower part of the ad showing terrible product placement. It looked like that the product was out of place but it should be the main emphasis in the ad.
