ATTENTION: Students must find their own article this week

Please make sure and review my comments in the returned papers for information on everything from formatting, effectively criticizing the author directly and concise grammar. This will be the last article critique assignment; week four is set up similarly to the second week. As with the first paper in week one, the article critique is an essay assignment, worth 100 points or 10% of the final grade for this course. Please give yourself sufficient time to adequately complete this assignment successfully.

Please keep in mind this writing assignment is a CRITICAL THINKING exercise. Students in previous courses report difficulty finding quality article to use for their assignment. One of the specific goals of the college experience is to learn how to effectively research for information. If you are in doubt on the quality of your paper, please send the link or a copy of the article to me for review before beginning your critique and I'll let you know if I think your choice will serve as a quality article to work with. Your paper should be a direct review of the article you choose. A well constructed article critique demonstrates your ability to interpret relevant information and gives me a clear look at your writing style and ability. Please keep your writing style formal or scientific. Papers written very informally or in "speak" as it is also known will be graded more stringently for grammar content.

To make this as structured as possible, please follow the following guideline: All papers should include an APA formatted title (cover) and reference page. 

The APA presentation in the Writing Help! section is an excellent reference resource. The running header must be in compliance with APA 6th Edition. It is quite easy to use the Purdue OWL or most collegiate sites found via Google or Yahoo searches. The paper should be written in double-spaced, 12-pitch, Times New Roman with one-inch margins. The paper should have at least three paragraphs, introduction, body, and conclusion. Each paragraph should have the first word indented five spaces or by clicking the tab key once.

Using the EU Online Library

Find a current article discussing one of the following...

1. An airline labor related article from a reliable source no older than January 1, 2010

2. A labor dispute which mentions the Weingarten ruling by the National Labor Relations Board (Please stay away from this resource: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weingarten_Rights. It is slightly less reliable than bathroom graffitti!)

3. An article discussing US Congressional review of labor law as it affects the airline industry.

Relate classroom discussion of these issues to your understanding of the topic selected. Included in your discussion, you should be able to touch on some of the surrounding information, supporting events, or potential forward looking suggestions.

Don't forget to properly format the Cover and Reference pages. (You'll lose a letter grade by not at least attempting to include these).

Due by midnight Saturday. If you need more time, ask! I'm more willing to grant an extension in lieu of handing out a failing grade for the assignment.
