In this article, the executive vice president of marketing at the comedy central, Levitt Walter explores how the American cable service can grow and meet its viewer’s expectations. This blog contains his responses to a number of young men who are ardent fans concerning the strategies to be deployed in enhancing the services.
Commenting on his role as the vice president of marketing in the comedy central, Levitt articulates that he is mandated to ensure that the business is successful, regardless of the circumstances. However, I find this notion as going a notch higher since in essence, there is no firm that can thrive or continue generating good returns when the economic situation does not allow. Otherwise, it can be a replication of Bernard Madolff’s Ponzi scheme, which thrived even when the economy was not favorable. What Levitt should tell his audience is that he will work to his capability in ensuring the company achieves its purpose.
With regard to how the company is planning to keep up with the changing pace of their youth fan audience, Levitt postulates that the company has a flexible policy to ensure that the fan’s interests and changing trends are accommodated in their programming. In achieving its main mission, the company according to Levitt, should ensure that it sticks to its core project of “comedy”. This is because as he observes, many young people are fascinated more by comedy than anything else in their lives. He gives examples to show how other media firms have deployed the aspect of comedy to attract the young generation.
