S. Salamatpoor and S. Salamatpoor, Evaluation of Babolsar Sand Behavior by Using Static Triaxial Tests and Comparison with Case History, Najafabad: Islamic Azad University, 2014
S. Salamatpoor and S. Salamatpoor in their article, “Evaluation of Babolsar Sand Behavior by Using Static Triaxial Tests and Comparison with Case History, start with a recount of experiments to investigate the static liquefaction of sand. In the context of this article, the authors were historically influenced by the desire to construct multi-storey buildings in soils found in regions prone to seismic waves. This necessitated an urge to study and evaluate the various types of sand in the regions and establish how they responded to stresses and strains. They claim in the first paragraph of the main text that, triaxial tests can be employed to study the static liquefaction properties of sand.
The Salamatpoor start their experiment by selecting Babolsar natural sand. This sand if found in a region that is highly populated and commonly prone to earthquakes. The research or experimental methodologies are specified at the beginning. The shape factor (SF) is taken into account in determining the various aspects of the sand particles. The authors are specialists in the civil engineering practice and therefore, they bring out a vivid account of how experiments are to be carried out.
The purpose of these tests is to establish the shear stresses in soil, relative density, shear parameters, and the initial effective stresses. This journal was published in 2014 at the Islamic Azad University. This is in itself is an indication that the article is entirely scholarly and a good reference for young scholars aspiring to excel in the field of civil engineering.
The triaxial techniques used for this investigation include structure and electro mechanics techniques, use of pneumatic forces supplied by air, electronic data acquisition systems and sample preparation techniques together with the general planning of the experiment. The techniques and research methodologies employed in writing this article portray the writer as a professional in the field of civil engineering practice. The experiments are well designed and executed with the latest technologies.
After the experimental investigations, then come the results and discussions. The Salamatpoor choose to use the effects of load anisotropic to analyze the stresses in the sand particles and excess pore water pressure. They note in page 187 that, “…the specimens exhibit flow liquefaction behavior in which the static shear stress required for equilibrium are greater than available shear strength in steady-state condition.” The multi personas worked together as a team in compiling this article. They both do in-depth investigations of the Babolsar sand and compile their results based on the observations.
S. Salamatpoor and S. Salamatpoor had been influenced by the desire to design and construct a 15-storey building in earth quake prone areas. They under take on a mission to first of all investigate the nature and behavior of Babolsar sand which is the main sand in that region. As engineers, they feel that they should provide a solution to the challenges in the building and construction industry.
M. Ahmed, et al., 3D-Analysis of Soil-Structure Interaction in Layered Soil, Abha: Scientific Research Publishing Inc.
Contextually, this article was compiled with the sole purpose of analyzing the interplay between the soil field and the components of the building structures. Ahmed et al., in their article, “3D-Analysis of Soil-Structure Interaction in Layered Soil” give an account of the stresses and strains found within the structure of the soil field. They want to establish the interplay between the soil field and the building structure. Piled-Raft Foundation response is studied through parametric studies of the soil structure foundation. The article, 3D-Analysis of Soil-Structure Interaction in Layered Soil, by Ahmed et al was first received in 2014 September, revised the following month October 2014 and then accepted in 20th November 2014. The article is published by Scientific Research Publishing Inc. in King Khalid University. The authors are professionals from the faculty of engineering, civil engineering department. It is indeed a very informative piece of writing with a mouthful of information on the best practices of civil engineering. The authors chose to do a detailed analysis of different soil models so as assess the different responses and behavior to the effect of stresses and strains. Nonlinear Finite Element Methodologies play a major role in the analysis of the soil models. The writers employ sophisticated and up...
