Kofman et al. argues that the coronavirus pandemic significantly contributed to the rise of domestic violence (DV) cases in Orange County, in the United States of America (USA). In particular, DV is a major public problem that has far-reaching adverse consequences, which is why it should be eliminated. The COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, including social isolation, stay-at-home protocols, and the closure of many businesses influenced individuals’ livelihoods and interactions, which contribute to mental well-being. For instance, Orange County closed places for family entertainment, offices, schools, places of worship, gyms, and indoor malls (Kofman et al. 3). That was done to reduce the spread of coronavirus, which led to deaths and a rise in DV incidents across the country.
This article is crucial in my study since it portrays why DV cases increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. For sure, people’s lives were affected in various ways such that some of them lost their jobs and had no source of income. The data used by researchers is credible and accurate since it comes from well-documented police reports. In that light, using this article in my study shows the reason why DV incidents increased during the coronavirus pandemic. For example, COVID-19 increased stressors that might have made individuals not think rationally when addressing issues in the family context.
