McIntyre, Lee. Post-Truth. MIT Press, 2018.
2). Reputation of author: McIntyre, Lee is a reputed writer who has contributed to science and technology for years. This publication sheds light on how social media and search engines have been spreading fake news.
3). Summary: McIntyre believes that social media sites have played a significant role in spreading fake news stories in recent years. Every day, thousands of people switch to Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other networks for gossips and celebrity stories. Unfortunately, they have no way to verify whether a story is true or not and thus allow it to get published instantly. As a result, people are often misguided or misled and faced a lot of problems. According to McIntyre, back in 2016, Google, Twitter, and Facebook admitted before Congress that fake stories were being spread through their platforms and promised to improve the user-experience in coming weeks. However, until now, no strict measures have been taken against blogs and websites that publish false stories on a daily basis.
4). Usefulness of this source: The writer argues that the search engine giant and social media companies have failed to fulfill their responsibilities in a better way. They took action to flag misinformation when it appeared on their pages or sites, but the situation is still out of control. For instance, Google is unable to stop bloggers and webmasters from publishing fake stories. Instead, the search engine company only checks whether a web content piece or an article is plagiarism-free and unique or not. Unfortunately, they have no way to monitor the quality of content and verify its authenticity. The same is the situation of Facebook, Twitter, and other similar sites. I can integrate it in my search because it talks that publishers and webmasters keep publishing and sharing stories on a large scale, and the social media networks, as well as search engines, cannot prevent them from publishing what is fake.
5). Potential drawbacks: One of the major drawbacks is that to maintain quality, these companies are still trying to turn the fake stories down and have developed algorithms and tools to counter corrective influences of misinformation, which are good for nothing.
6). Quote: “Google has recently included authoritative fact-checks in its search results, and Facebook has initiated labeling links to identify fake stories and put them down.”

Since people learned low to tell a lie, deceive or gossip, fake stories have gotten tremendous success, and there are no set rules to distinguish them from genuine and authentic stories. One of the major problems is that fake news stories spread quickly and go viral, creating a mess for the search engines and confusing them about how to react.
