Guideline
Annotated Bibliography prompt
Gather at least three sources you will likely use in your paper. I say'likely' because this is still a preliminary assignment, and your research may lead you to other, more pertinent sources. Nonetheless, an Annotated Bibliography prompts you to engage substantively, and create a record of, those sources you will most likely be working with.
For each source:
1. Provide the bibliographical entry in MLA format. (see Purdue OWL)
2. Write a short paragraph explaining how you plan to use the source. At least two of these must be secondary sources. Does the source inform and support your position, as of now; is it an alternative view that you will consider and incorporate; is it an opposing view that you will confront and dispute? Does the source provide important data/stats/facts you will rely on? Is it a first-person testimonial, a speech, a video documentary, etc.? Explain what it is and how it is relevant to your project.
3. The goal is to analyze and interpret the motif—and make an argument as to how it is working in the text, and in the world if you wish.

This article tackles the two epics of the East and the West regarding their image of a woman in their literature. They presented different arguments from different epics that contain female figures that have significant roles in the progress of the epics. Included here is the description of Penelope in the epic The Odyssey, wherein she was described as a woman who is intelligent but is restricted due to her gender. This idea supports the argument that despite her great intellectual capacity and maturity in Homer’s epics, her actions were still limited due to being a woman.
