Annotated bibliographies are summaries and evaluations of the sources used in a research project, including the primary source by Don DeLillo. Annotated bibliographies help the instructor and the student to determine how each source will be used for a research project.
Before I introduce how to format and write an annotated bibliography. I'd like to break down what these terms annotated and bibliography mean. Let's start with bibliography.
Bibliography is a list of all sources you will use for your research project. With each essay, you have been writing a bibliography of the sources you cited in the essay. For MLA we call bibliographies a "works cited” page.

7.2 Annotated Bibliography
DeLillo, Don. White Noise. Penguin Books, 1984.
In White Noise, Don DeLillo critiques America’s consumer culture and addresses the fear of death, and the problems of news media consumption and technology. The characters fear death and shopping, and the consumer culture is one way to deal with this. Jack, the main character in the novel is one of the many people who are into shopping and favor the accumulation of commodities. Despite Jack Gladney being a lecturer who ought to have had critical thinking skills he expresses himself through what he purchases and consumes too much news without reflecting on the news content that heavily focuses on human disasters. A toxic cloud, of poisonous gas caused by an accident cause, Jack, his wife Babette, their children and other residents to small University City, but still Jack fails to connect the toxic cloud with the industrial society. I will show how Don DeLillo focuses on the mass consumer culture Don DeLillo to critique the contemporary American culture and lifestyle.
Packer, Matthew J. ""At the Dead Center of Things" in Don DeLillo's White Noise: Mimesis, Violence, and Religious Awe." MFS Modern Fiction Studies, vol. 51, no. 3, 2005, pp. 648-666.
The article focuses on whether there is too much focus on the postmodernist aspects of the novel and how culture and violence are intertwined in the text. The writer points out that DeLillo has revealed in essays, interviews and various other works that his approach is at times anthropological, as there is focus on American culture in White Noise. Even though, DeLillo lost his literary influence over time, his works examine the contemporary American life. At times, commercial transactions seem to restore order in the supermarket to the extent that Jack feels recharged spiritually (Packe 661) and (DeLillo 22). In a consumer culture, knowledge is considered more of a product and not a discipline annd despite increased focus on education the people fail to use critical thinking skills.
The postmodern age is associated with the exclusion of religion in the society and too much focus on technoconsumerism, but technoconsumerism in turn reinforces religion and the sacred aspects of life. In the urban (ist) setting the people are disenchanted where cultural traditions and the media, influence the construction of identity. Literary critics of the novel have focused on different topics including mass consumerism, where the people connect with others through the consumer culture. While Packer highlights that critics have focused too much on postmodernism and whether there is a need for further analysis. I will explore the supermarket satire to better understand critics’’ understanding of American culture as depicted in the novel. Packer (661) states that “supermarket is presented as a contemporary temple removed at least from obvious economic violence and injustice”. In the consumer, media and information network, human desires are mediated where the media technology create awareness and reinforces certain experiences more than others and this includes repeated focus on violence and catastrophes on television.
