In her work, Elsie Cross utilizes her own experience as an African-American woman in order to give practical directions and assistance to current organization leaders. Elsie notes the most common workplace diversity issues - racism, sexism, and heterosexism, and how they all contribute to the downfall of an organization. The author demonstrates how the above stated forms of oppression take control in every sphere of the workplace: individual, group, and systems, and says that if organizations are indeed going to eliminate these workplace diversity concerns, organizational leaders must first correct their psychological and emotional barriers. She calls for uniformity in the description and view of diversity in the workplace.
