The book concentrates on the concepts of nature and its relation to architecture. In this regard nature is seen as the basic raw material from which man creates all sorts of form in the universe. The book illuminates nature as not only a raw material for basic architectural components but also as a way through which human beings relate to the world. Human beings find ways and places that can support the human life. Similarly, architecture can be seen as simple structures to complex and technical buildings that are meant to support human life. In this case nature becomes many of the aesthetic expressions. In architecture, nature emanates as a powerful raw material and as a kind of art that expresses nature through architecture. I chose the book because it focuses on nature and its aesthetic expressions through architecture and its artistic practices. This book supports and gives an illusion on the need to restore naturalistic and artistic values in today’s world of architecture, hence supporting my thesis.

The book focuses on the Jet age of the 1940s and the 1950s which is characterized by the smooth and bright facades of architecture. Some of these forms of architecture that can be remembered down in the books of history include the Philip Johnsons Four Seasons Restaurant and the Eero Sarinesns TWA at the JFK Airport. In this book Friedman argues that the Mid-century buildings were the best representation of aesthetics and the best definition of glamour in architecture. The author has featured several ancient buildings in American and Europe which later became an expression of the postwar human expression. The author argues that the lovers of entertainment came out to be known in the consumer marketplace through the cultural expression during the postwar period. The culture of the people was rooted on the use of natural resources in creating unique structures and items that created an extraordinary identity and became an expression of status in society. In a manner, the author argues for the naturalistic nature of the ancient buildings and the cultural features gave those constructions an outstanding view and an expression of status in society. These source supports my thesis based on the fact that despite the underdevelopment of the architectural art of the ancient times still some of the ancient buildings emerges to be stronger and still stronger up to date not only in America but across the world.
