For this assessment, create an annotated bibliography of the resources that you will use as evidence to support your arguments in your Controversies in Psychology Position Paper assessment. Annotated bibliographies are a great way to remember what it is about a particular resource that caught your attention and how you thought you might use it.
Organizing Your Research
As you begin to research your topic in the Capella Library, you will likely run across a number of articles that will be interesting to you. You may find yourself challenged to keep all of your research organized. RefWorks, linked in the Resources under the Capella Resources heading, is a tool that Capella offers learners to help with this organizational challenge. Explore the RefWorks resources to learn more about RefWorks, what it can do for you, and how to set up an account.
Complete the following to prepare your annotated bibliography:
•Read the Capella Writing Center's Annotated Bibliographies document, linked in the Resources under the Capella Resources heading, to learn more about annotated bibliographies. You will see there are different kinds of annotated bibliographies.
•Select a topic and develop a working position and a working argument you would like to make about the topic.
-Does cosmetic surgery promote or hinder self-esteem?
-Does learning change the structure of the brain?
-Does use of electronic technology promote or detract from well-being?
-Is American psychological research generalizable to other cultures?
-Is medication or are behavioral interventions more effective in treating attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)?

-Does online learning or traditional (face-to-face) learning lead to higher academic performance?
•Collect scholarly evidence to support your position. You may use the articles in the suggested resources of the course for your analysis, but you will need to find additional scholarly information to meet the minimum of five sources. -Articles from the Capella University Library are linked in the course file Controversies in Psychology Topic Options and Resource List. You will find six options for your topic listed, and two articles with opposing viewpoints listed for each topic. The resources are listed by topic so you can concentrate on those resources relevant to your selected topic.
-You may use up to two of these articles in your Annotated Bibliography and Controversies in Psychology Position assessments. You will also be searching the library for additional sources for the assessments.
•Create an annotated bibliography that includes:
-A minimum of five scholarly articles.
-The reference for each of the sources you are considering.
-A brief summary of the article.
-A brief description of how this source either supports the thesis of your position or presents a counter-argument to your thesis.

Self Mutilation for Coping among the Youths
The element of self mutilation as an avenue for copying among the youths has resulted in several controversial issues within the field of psychology. The act of self mutilation that include overdosing and self-cutting have been conducted for various reasons, with the most common rationale being to relieve tension and a bottled-up anger in order to feel in control of a life situation or punish individuals for combating conflicting with the feelings of deadness and numbness. This paper seeks to conduct an annotated bibliography on self mutilation as an avenue of copying.

According to this author, the youths who have deficient skills and knowledge required in copying with problem-solving ideas result vulnerable to the adaptation of self-mutilation as a copying mechanism in their lives. This author critically denotes a hypothesized test that was used in determining the male incarcerated self-mutilation acts, with results compared to those of the non-mutilated prisoners and non-prisoner control groups. An examination was conducted that would enable individuals to cope with stress that is demonstrated in a depressed score for self-mutilators with a scale that was developed to determine the aspects of optimism and self worth in regards to life among this population. This assessment clearly demonstrated that self-mutilators engage entrust their lives in problem avoidance behaviors. On the other hand, self-mutilators have a tendency of recording less perceived control over the element of problem solving. The results of this study were therefore discussed on the element of effectiveness on the element of self-mutilation detailed as a copying approach that required the needs to adopt to multidimensional skills in determining how this age group can cope with situations.
