Students will complete an annotated bibliography on the social problem/issue of their choice and identify how the profession has addressed this problem both historically and currently. You will identify five sources that provide information on the problem; one from a historical perspective that cover the 1920s to 2000 and four that are from social work journals that discuss current understanding of the problem (2000 to current). You should identify the literature and use the principles of critical thinking to assess the literature. The intent of this assignment is to summarize and critique the content of the articles. The final element should include an assessment of any biases that the author may have and whether or not the articles align themselves with social work values and ethics. Hess, C., Milli, J., Hayes, J., Hegewisch, A., Mayayeva, Y., Roman, S., & Augeri, J. (2015). The status of women in the states: 2015. Institute for Washington, DC: Women’s Policy Research. Retrieved from /publications/pubs/the-status-of-women-in-the-states-2015-full-report/at_download/file.
In this quantitative report, the authors look into how much women in Colorado still lag behind men with regards to economic equality. The report discusses how women in Colorado still earn less than men, constitute the largest percentage of poor adults in Colorado and are less likely to have businesses of their own. The authors feel that even in sectors where major strides towards economic equality have been made, there is still room for improvement. The authors project that at the current rate of bridging the gap of economic inequality, women will achieve equal pay as men in 2057. The authors also draw comparisons with other neighboring states as well as states across the nation. The report is ethical and observes values of social work.
