According to James Adams, psychologists should not be allowed to prescribe medications since they lack the medical training needed to determine the effectiveness of medicines. However, if they agree to receive relevant training and devote themselves to serving the patients, then the government might grant them permission to prescribing medications. But before this, their certificates and experience letters should be checked properly. If they fit the criteria, then they can begin prescribing medications to their patients on a daily basis; however, they should make sure that the medications they prescribe belong to good companies and have been tested and accredited by the authorities.

In this article, it has been mentioned that for quite a long time, psychologists in Illinois and other parts of the United States have been prescribing medications to the patients, which is a matter of great concern. The fact is that such laws should not be passed that favor these psychologists as most of them are unable to identify or recognize the best medications for certain diseases. Their job is to provide consultancy services or therapies to their clients, not to prescribe any medicine. In the case of mental illness, especially depression and stress, they may compare different medications for their advantages and disadvantages before prescribing something to the patient.
