Alarcon, G., & Forbes, E. E. (2017). Prosocial behavior and depression: A case for developmental gender differences. Current Behavioral Neuroscience Reports, 4(2), 117-127.
Gabriela Alarcon and Erika Forbes claim that depression and prosocial behaviors are likely to increase during adolescence. In particular, adolescent females have a higher risk of becoming depressed than teenage boys. Alarcon is a psychiatrist, and Forbes is a psychologist at Pittsburgh University. These two individuals are professors in the realm of psychology, which means that their article is valid and credible. People care about the prosocial behavior of adolescents since it has a significant influence on their future lives. Prosocial behaviors can eliminate depression. The primary target audience is educators. Furthermore, parents and teenagers are also targeted so that they can understand how they can help each other in eradicating depression during adolescence.
Bakalar, N. (2019). Behavior at age 6 may predict adult income. The New York Times. Retrieved from /2019/02/13/well/family/behavior-at-age-6-may-predict-adult-income.html.
Nicholas Bakalar defines prosociality as the tendency of an individual to help others who are hurt, inviting a stranger into a game, and stopping quarrels. The author affirms that prosociality, hyperactivity, aggression, and defiant behavior can be used to predict children’s income level when they grow up. Bakalar is a writer based in New York. In reality, his research is not supported by statistical evidence, which is the reason why it is not generalizable. People care about prosociality since it can determine the type of person that one will become in the future. Although the author is not an expert in psychology, he puts facts together to prove a point that makes sense. The intended audiences are parents and educators. By understanding the possible level of a child’s income, teachers can suggest various ways to improve the behaviors of young people so that they can be responsible and constructive adults when they grow up.
Dovidio, J. F., Piliavin, J. A., Schroeder, D. A., & Penner, L. A. (2017). The social psychology of prosocial behavior (1st ed.). New York, NY: Psychology Press.
The authors focus on prosocial behaviors from different dimensions. They also explore myriads ways through which prosocial behaviors can be manifested without forgetting the genetic or biological factors. John Dovidio and Jane Allyn Piliavin are professors of psychology at Yale University and Wisconsin-Madison University, respectively. David Schroeder lectures psychological science at Arkansas University, while Louis Penner is an oncologist at Wayne State University. The reason why it is vital to know the specialty of the author is because one wants to be sure that the individual has relevant knowledge in the fie...
