Annotated Bibliography Instructions:

Develop an annotated bibliography for one sources relating to your topic. (TOPIC IS: Single Parent Families: The rise in divorce has created many more families headed, at least for a while, by a single parent. Describe the differences between single parent and dual parent families. Analyze the effects of single parenting on children, on the experience of the parent or on schools and communities...) These should be sources that you are using to help your argument. Find a purposeful, relevant, (academic) credible sources. Use MLA or APA conventions for bibliographic info. Following the usual Works Cited or References information, the below annotation should address the following things: Summarize the author¡¯s work. Paraphrase the author¡¯s explicit (or implicit) claim/thesis which you plan to work with in your paper. Who is the author and what is their expertise in the field? Locate the author¡¯s argument and acknowledge the context (time, cultural climate, etc.) in which they are working in. What and how is the definition/key term from the author¡¯s work adding to your argument, conceptually? Does it challenge, support, or raise a new point not considered about your topic at hand? How do you plan to use the source in your paper? Describe how you see it functioning. Each annotated entry should be no shorter than 6 sentences and no longer than 2 paragraphs. They should be written thoroughly and in complete thoughts and sentences, not merely a list. Specifics: approx 2-3 pages, single spacing, 1-2 paragraphs for each entry.

Divorce and single-parenting have become part of the modern society and have dramatically altered the lives of children as well as effecting the society at large. It has become an alarming reality that most children in the modern society spend their childhood living with a single parent. There is also an increasing trend of non residential parents being detached over time and paying no or minimal child support. The costs on the affected children as well as the society of such disengagement have proved to be far from trivial. The connections relating custody arrangements, child support, child well being and parental involvement are still not well covered by the previous studies. Most of the research on single parenting are based on unrepresentative, small samples or on divorcing couples experiences in a particular area. Such studies do not truly reflect the real experiences of most of the affected children and the custodial parents as well as the consequences of such family set up to the parents, children and society. More studies need to be conducted on issues related to the rise of divorce cases, the difference between the dual patents and single parents with more focus being directed towards the impacts of these families on children, parents and the society at large. This paper presents an annotated bibliography on selected sources on single parenting and the difference and effects of single and dual parenting on society, children and parents. The annotation takes a look at expertise of the authors in this field, the relevance of the sources to this topic and the functionality of the sources.
