Introduction
The coronavirus pandemic compelled governments to issue directives that compelled the people to remain indoors unless they offered essential services. While families spend more time together, the lockdown also took a toll on the mental health of many individuals. The financial strain stemming from a faltering economy coupled with working in a less than ideal environment, restrictive movement, and the biting effects of the pandemic led to higher reports of mental health issues.
Problem statement
The black American community is more likely to have preexisting conditions that predispose them to COVID-19 infection, less likely to have health insurance, and more likely to work in jobs that do not accommodate remote work CITATION Ste20 \l 1033 (Soucheray, 2020). Health and income inequalities played a key role in exacerbating the effects of the pandemic on people of color. The black American community has also been disproportionately grappling with mental health issues. All these issues make the long-term effects of the pandemic on African American’s mental health to understand the best intervention measures to reverse the trend.
Null hypothesis
University students will not suffer from long-term mental health problems during and after the coronavirus pandemic.
Alternative hypothesis
Many university students will suffer from long-term mental health problems during and after the coronavirus pandemic.
Purpose of study
The purpose of this study is to determine whether there are any long-term effects of the coronavirus on the mental health of African Americans.
