Introduction
VeriChip is a radio frequency identification device (RFID) that is implanted in the body for easy identification. Implanting RFID radio-magnetic devices has its advantages and disadvantages. Some people are still reluctant to embrace this technology because of speculations and assumptions about it in the market. This annotated bibliography gives a brief overview on the sources that the researcher will consult while researching on this topic.
Halamka, J., Juels, A., Studdlefield, A. & Westhues, J. (2008). Security implications of VeriChip Cloning. Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, 13 (6). Retrieved from /pmc/articles/PMC1656959/pdf/601-S1067502706001605.main.pdf
In this previewed research article, Halamka et al. (2008) narrow their study on the security implications of this new technology. The researchers narrow their to the security implications of implanting RFID chips in patients. Halamka et al. (2008) discuss the risks associated with linking private data of the patient to the system. There are high chances of misusing the patient’s data. This source is crucial for the study in the manner it discusses social reservations that the researchers have on implanting veriChips in the human body. The fact that this research study is from the health and nursing discipline makes it a reliable source for the research. The article is, however, relatively old and there are high chances that most of the weaknesses of the article could have been solved in the latest research studies.

The article by Lupton (2015) discusses ethical reasons behind objections for implanting verichips in the human body. The article starts by discussing the potential benefits of accepting RFID implants in the body. Some of the advantages of this technology is increased service delivery due to easy and early identification. Since the patient’s data is stored in the chip, it becomes easy for clinicians to identify the patient. Lupton (2016) goes ahead to explain how RFID technology is used in addition to its disadvantages.
This article is crucial for the research study because of how it addressed technology of RFId in the human body. The article will be used as a reference when compiling the literature review section as well as the discussion sections of the study. Since this source is focused on ethical considerations associated with cigarette, it will be a good and reliable source in the discussion and analysis of ethical sections of the research study.
