The article represents an expert consensus study that aimed at classifying competencies, which will help in distinguishing baccalaureate-educated registered nurses from the many nurse staffs who work in nursing homes. Apparently, this study was in light of the complexity of care needed by staffs admitted to the nursing homes. Experts agreed on 16 competencies, some that are not within the nursing expertise, for example, team leadership, role model and coaching. The article concludes that there is a need of revising the nursing curricula to meet the complex needs of the nursing home residents.

The methodology considers various factors, such as an organization’s leadership preferences, organization’s mission and culture, and importantly, the methodology is collaborative. The article provides important information concerning how to arrive at the 2010-2011 NGNA strategic initiatives; hence, organizations can use the information to improve.
