I stopped to catch a breath and watched other students, who seemed to run across the field effortlessly. I was 12 years old. I had just moved to a new school where students participated in physical exercise for about an hour every day. I was not used to this kind of physical activity. I remember wondering why I could not do the same, since my body felt heavy and my legs weak, yet I was not overweight. I felt challenged. On that day, I made a promise to myself to be running at least a kilometer a day until my legs felt stronger. This activity taught me endurance and patience. That was the beginning of my journey on physical fitness and the first time I set an achievable goal for myself. Since then, I can say with confidence that my quality of life has improved because I no longer feel easily overwhelmed by physical activities.
This experience is what has drawn me to exercise science as a suitable degree for my educational and professional aspirations. Since I began running when I was 12 years old, I have always felt some sense of freedom and strength that I never experienced before. I have always aspired to be in the fitness industry so that I can help other people feel the same freedom and strength I always feel after a physical exercise. Thus, professionally, I want to be a personal trainer or a fitness coach. I want to be a certified personal trainer or fitness coach through the International Fitness Professional Association (IFPA).
