You have to write about a social problem, which is "Homelessness" and how a direct practice or policy intervention might provide a way to engage that problem.
Homelessness is a condition in which people do not have a permanent home. Homeless people in most instances are incapable of acquiring and maintaining regular, secure, safe and adequate housing including a proper nighttime residence. Homelessness especially among the youth is a disturbing and serious social problem in many countries around the world.
In order to understand how a direct practice or policy intervention might provide a way of engaging the social problem of homelessness, it is imperative to first understand its causes. There are two main causes of homelessness, personal causes and structural causes. Personal causes include individual factors such as alcohol and drug abuse, relationship breakdown, domestic violence, lack of social support, poor mental and/or physical health, getting involved in criminal activities, and debts for instance rent arrears or mortgage that leads to eviction. Another factor is family background for instance having parents with alcohol or drug problems, physical and/or sexual abuse in childhood or adolescent and family breakdown and/or disputes.
The other factor is an institutional background for instance having been in prison, the armed forces or in care. Moreover, one can end up being homeless when his/her friends and relatives including parents are unable or unwilling to continue to house them. Tackling these personal causes of homelessness requires support from friends and family as well as public bodies, combined with efforts from the homeless family or individual.
