I chose the Peace Corps to help others and gain knowledge and skills on community action ,and as an agent of change I believe that working closely with the communities will help me learn more. Even though, I grew up in an unstable environment in a violent and poor neighborhood, I did not let this hold me back. A ‘culture of resignation to fate’ that nothing could change was common in the neighborhood and the vicious cycle of poverty was and is still a reality to many there. Nonetheless, the stagnation of growth common in the low income areas did not hold me back, as I was inspired by mentors to pursue my dreams and do something meaningful in my life. Similarly, joining the Peace Corps will allow me to mentor and influence others in a more impactful way. I want to give hope to others that personal and intellectual growth is possible and beneficial. I have found that it only takes one person to change someone’s life for the better.
Peace Corps seeks to promote peace and better understanding and volunteering as a Health Education Teacher is one way to serve a larger purpose.
