The trait that I need to succeed as a first-generation college student is self-motivation. Self-motivation is important because I do not have any other role models in my family that I can look up to for inspiration about college life. Just like in many life situations, I may face obstacles or setbacks that may shake my confidence. I would need self-drive to keep going and accomplish important goals in my studies. I am very fortune to be the first member in my family to have the opportunity to earn a college degree. I want to use self-motivation to help me push through and accomplish the goals I have set.
I will exemplify self-motivation by developing resolute goals that I intend to achieve. Goal setting will help me develop a list of achievable objectives for my studies and then work towards them. For example, I will be setting goals on what I want to accomplish in my studies each week to help me keep the momentum. If it is a class on finance, I will be writing down the areas I want to cover that week and the exact time and day that I will accomplish the reading. Goal setting will also help me organize my time appropriately. As a college student, I need to be conscious of time to complete the set tasks on time.
