Term Paper Instructions:

The paper should be a self-reflection (based on your readings and the online Connect self-assessments you have taken during the course of the semester. The assessments, as you know, include:

• Assessing Your Motivation to Lead
• Assessing Your Ethical Ideology

• Assessing Strategic Thinking

I. Self-Assessment: Self-Reflection
Given my scores and analysis of results in Self Assessment 14.3 (“Readiness To Assume Leadership Role”) and Self Assessment 1.1 (“Motivation To Lead), I have a strong inclination to assume a leadership role and have strong inner motivation to lead. On a general note, I usually “step in” in order to help or offer support. This is an attitude usually shown by servant leaders. Moreover, I choose to cooperate in and beyond defined unit, a characteristic of participative leadership. Thus, I can be said to combine attributes, attitudes, behaviors and actions exhibited by servant and participative leaders in different situations. On a more specific note, I am more likely to engage peers, subordinates and wider collaboration community or stakeholders should a need arise to collaborate and, more importantly, should I feel I need to offer support without expecting any perceived direct or indirect benefits in return. For instance, asked in Self Assessment 14.3 if “I would enjoy coaching other members of the team,” I have chosen “Agree”. Moreover, asked if “The problems of my teammates are my problems too,” I have chosen “Agree”. This is indicatory not only of a sense of ownership I have but, more importantly, of an inclination to offer support shown to be critical in bringing about change at organizations (Gigliotti et al., 2019) and in wider community at large (Knudsen, 2018). From a motivational perspective, my self-assessment scores and analysis consistently emphasize an inclination to lead even if I have no immediate benefits to gain. For example, asked “If I agree to lead a group, I would never expect any advantages or special benefits” and if “I feel that I have a duty to lead others if I am asked,” I answer “Agree” and “Agree,” respectively.

In sum, I understand my strengths and weaknesses, according to self-assessment results, to be as follows:
Strengths
* Inner Motivation. This is an important asset to maintain a critical inertia for leadership, particularly in dynamic complex environments. Specifically, inner motivation helps me navigate rough waters during change management periods. Understandably, people usually resists change. Having no inner motivation and relying solely on external factors, I might, upon excessive stress, yield and give up all effort to introduce important changes during change periods.
* Ownership. As noted, I go an extra mile to identify problems and solve conflicts. These are are skills, among more, shown to be essential prerequisites in inspiring, if not visionary, leaders (Mumford et al., 2017). Taking responsibility for a project, program or even a simple task is, from a leadership perspective, indicatory of servantship and, in some instances, emotional intelligence since some peers and/or subordinates might need intervention or assistance to carry on.
