Introduction
It is important for professionals and practitioners in the healthcare industry to establish whether their patients respond to medication. It is because patients may not respond to treatment effectively. Thus, the researcher conducted a study to establish whether there was an increase in adherence to treatment by the study participants after using the MyRefill cellphone application. The researcher used a prospective cohort study design because the study follows participants’ characteristics over time. This implies that the study examined participants’ characteristics from June 2014 to December 2014. It is notable that the researcher used several tools to conduct the study. For instance, the researcher used questionnaires and the MyRefill cellphone application to collect data from the study participants. MyRefill cellphone application is used by patients and doctors to keep track of medication because it records the time, dosage, and time of medication according to the doctor’s prescription.
It is critical that the researcher used the following hypotheses to conduct the study.
H0: MyRefill cellphone application has no significant effect on patient adherence to treatment.
H1: MyRefill cellphone application has no significant effect on patient adherence to treatment.
The study revealed an improvement in adherence to treatment after using the MyRefill cellphone application.
Methodology
As aforementioned, the researcher used a prospective cohort study design. As a result, the researcher recruited 10 male study participants and examined their adherence to medication for seven months. Baseline measures for all patients were recorded before the study began. The mean blood pressure at the baseline was 166.1/83.4; the median for the number of pills taken for every participant was seven pills while the mean age was 49.9 years. The Morisky scale and the Hill Bone scale were used to measure patient adherence to treatment. The baseline measures from the Morisky scale and the Hill Bone scale were also recorded. Every patient confirmed that he had a cellphone before the study began. As a result, the participants were introduced and trained on how to use the MyRefill application.
The patients’ measurement from Morisky scale and the Hill Bone scale were recorded on August, October, and December while the blood pressure was recorded monthly. The participants were asked to fill questionnaires at the end of the study on how the program helped them. It is notable that data was cleaned and ...
