Research Proposal Instructions:

1) Proposal
The proposal itself is a concise statement of 250-500 words that describes:
Your TOPIC of study - be careful not to mix "subject" with "topic." A topic needs to be specific enough to be able to be covered in such a short paper. You narrow the subject into a topic by finding smaller aspects or angles of the topic within the subject area to use as the basis of your research. "The Haitian Revolution" is an example of a subject, but "How the Haitian Revolution impacted the music in Eastern Cuba" is a topic that looks at the Haitian Revolution from one specific angle. Another example of a subject is "Hip Hop," which would be impossible to address in the length of this paper. But something like "The dancing practices that accompanied the birth of Hip Hop in the Bronx" is something more manageable.
The QUESTION/S on which you will focus in the study of your topic
A THESIS statement, where you state your point of view on the topic
The METHODOLOGY you will use to answer those questions and prove your thesis - how are you collecting and organizing your evidence
2) Annotated Bibliography
The annotated bibliography offers you the chance to research and process a portion of the critical tradition connected to your topic. The same way you did with your first long assignment writing down sentences from the films that you were going to incorporate, make sure that you take notes as you read articles and books, so you can incorporate their criticism into your own paper and enter in conversation with those sources: do your arguments take them as a departure point? Do you agree or disagree with them?
The annotated bibliographies for your proposals must include at least four scholarly sources. If necessary, you can also include documentaries and/or films as sources.
Bibliographical Information should follow MLA, APA, or Chicago citation format. Sources should be listed alphabetically by the author’s last name; everything should be double-spaced.
Annotations should be 3-5 sentences long where you indicate:
a) state the topic the author discusses (1 sentence)
b)state the author's thesis (1 sentence)
c) summarize the author's methodology and arguments (1-3 sentences)

The Rising Role of K-pop and K-pop Stars in the Hallyu: The Korean Wave
Introduction
The Korean Wave (Hallyu) refers to South Korean culture's influence and global awareness through film and television. K-pop and K-pop stars remain the most influential part of this international cultural wave. The music genre consists of strong vocal abilities, well-choreographed dance performances, and impressive stage presence that increased Korea's global visibility and rapidly developing economy. According to Romano (3), K-pop is now a $5 billion industry, with Korea being the key exporter with even the government playing a role in its popularization. Thus, K-pop is the flagship exporter of Korean culture, especially in the era of the internet, and underpins the global phenomenon of the Korean Wave.
Proposal
Therefore, this brief aims to source and discuss the role of K-pop in the globalization of Korean culture through the Korean Wave. As a result, the guiding question is: how is the rising of K-pop and K-pop stars influencing the Korean Wave? It is premised that K-pop and its stars are the pillars without which the Korean Wave would not have had a global impact. In a survey spanning 18 countries in 2021, 39% of respondents perceived K-pop as 'very popular' (Statista ). Thus, understanding the role of K-pop is critical because it reveals how countries can use music to influence global cultures.
Methodology
The current research is a secondary study relying on sources from various databases, including Grove, JSTOR, RISM, and RIPM. Keywords including K-pop, Korean wave, culture, fanship, social identity theory, and cultural policy were used to find articles related to the current topic. Four of the relevant papers are summarized in the next section.
Annotated Bibliography
Ganghariya, Garima, and Rubal Kanozia. "Proliferation of Hallyu Wave and Korean popular culture across the world: a systematic literature review from 2000-2019." Journal of Content, Community & Communication 11.6 (2020): 177-207.
According to the authors, the exponential growth of Korean pop and subsequent cultural products globally (Hallyu) has the attention of people worldwide. This popularity has extended into competition against Hollywood films and music. The authors conducted a literature review to better understand this phenomenon in the study. The outcomes reveal that ...
