Research Paper: O’Hodos
O’Hodos is a form of a particular religious sect led by James, brother to Jesus. O’Hodos can be translated to The Way, The Travelling, or The Road Journey. Notably, O’Hodos’s beliefs conform to other religious beliefs such as Jewish, Proto-Christianity, and Proto-Islamic. In the Bible, especially the New Testament, Christ describes himself as The Way in John 4.16 and Acts, which is probably the origin of the word, The Way. O’Hodos is characterized by worshipping the God of Abraham, circumcision, attending pilgrimage, giving for charity, and praying five prayers daily. This assignment will present the argument that O’Hodos was Jewish, proto-Christian, and proto-Islam.
O’Hodos the Jewish Sect
James, the brother of Jesus, was the leader of the O’Hodos religion in Jerusalem, and most of his believers and followers were Jewish. James observed strict Jewish beliefs, which he asked his followers to follow. However, the difference between O’Hodos and the Jewish religion was the process of becoming a follower of James. The O’Hodos Jerusalem was formed with similar beliefs to Christianity but with slight differences. Also, James was an ardent follower of Jewish rituals and beliefs but did not accept the gentiles. The pro-Christian observed several prayers daily, diet restrictions, and monotheistic beliefs shared by the Jews. Further, these beliefs aroused the expectation and urged to worship multiple gods rather than the only divine being. On the other hand, Jewish people believed God created them and were obligated to serve only him. They thought they were unique and entered into a covenant with Him through Abraham.
Additionally, these ideas gave birth to the creation of another separate sect of Judaism with cleansing ritual prayers, observing the Sabbath day, and circumcision beliefs.
