Representation And Discourses Of The American Dream In Film
Now that you compiled and annotated most of your research materials, you will create an outline for your paper as well as draft an introduction. The purpose of creating an outline is to help you organize your ideas about the film and research into a coherent perspective that will guide the writing of your rough draft. In the outline, you will identify your research question, propose a thesis statement to answer the question, show how you will develop a reading of the film supported by close textual analysis and research, and suggest wider implications of your argument in the conclusion. When constructing your outline, pay particular attention to how you can best introduce and then develop your argument incrementally in the body paragraphs; each the paragraph should express one main idea that builds upon the point made in the previous paragraph so that by the time the reader reaches the conclusion, you have forged a persuasive and convincing case for the inevitability of your analysis. In other words, use the structure of your outline to communicate the logic and sequence of your argument.
